Job summary

Forward Air Corporation is seeking a Forklift Operator to safely load, unload, stage, and move freight in a multi-modal terminal or dock. This role emphasizes accuracy, documentation, and adherence to safety procedures in a fast-paced environment.

The position requires 3+ years of dock or warehouse experience, a valid forklift certification, and the ability to work a Monday–Friday shift onsite with possible overtime. Excellent English communication is essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
• Valid forklift certification/licensure required (or able to obtain).
• 3+ years of dock or warehouse experience.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing.
• Ability to recognize labels, barcodes, and freight markings accurately.
• Willingness to learn basic computer systems and handheld scanners.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight using forklifts and other MHE according to procedures.
• Move, stage, sort, and position freight between dock doors and areas.
• Pick, pack, and prepare items for shipping and delivery.
• Assist drivers with loading/unloading following safety policies.
• Label, scan, and track freight to ensure accuracy and documentation integrity.
• Identify damaged freight and report safety or equipment concerns.
• Maintain a clean, safe dock environment and adhere to PPE standards.
• Work various shifts including nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
• Mentor/develop other Material Handlers when needed.
