Job summary

Washington State University is hiring a First-Generation 4-Year College Transition Navigator in Vancouver, WA. The role centers on guiding high school seniors in the Horizons program toward four-year postsecondary paths and coordinating college transition initiatives.

You will work with TRiO Student Support Services to support a cohort of students, plan campus visits, and develop programs that address barriers faced by first-generation students.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required with two years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience.
• Master's degree may substitute for one year of professional work experience.
• Combination of education and experience may be substituted year-for-year for the educational requirement.

Position Details

The Opportunity: As the Four-Year College Transition Navigator (Navigator), you will serve as the primary contact for senior high school students participating in the Horizons project who plan on attending any four-year post-secondary institution.

Key Responsibilities

• coordinating specialized programs that help students transition to college life and access resources.
• partner with the Postsecondary Pathways Advisors (PPAs) in organizing campus visits, events, and other specialized co-curricular programs designed to build community, provide resources, and address the unique challenges faced by first-year and first-generation students attending four-year colleges.
• through dual credit and pathway support plans, you will equip potential and current students with the tools and resources to navigate entry into higher education and challenges to achieve their academic goals.
• directly support a cohort of students attending WSU Vancouver during their transition via programming and support in a shared role with TRiO Student Support Services.

Additional Information

This is a full time (100% FTE), temporary position. This position is overtime eligible.

Temporary End Date: This is a temporary position expected to end on May 31, 2028. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.

Monthly Salary

$4,050.92 - $4,167 Monthly | Commensurate with experience and qualifications In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience.
• A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience.
• Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
• Demonstrated experience with collaboration, program development, program planning, and successful program execution.
• Demonstrated experience working with students in an advisor, coach or mentor role.

Preferred Qualifications

• One or more years of experience advising/counseling students in a higher education setting.
• Experience supporting students through college transition processes such as orientation, registration, housing, and access to accommodations.
• Experience working with first-generation, low-income, and/or rural students across secondary-to-postsecondary transition points.
