Job summary

Sage, the care intelligence platform for senior living, seeks its first General Counsel in New York. You will lead the legal function, advise the CEO, leadership team, and board, and help scale a healthcare technology company with a hands-on approach.

Your focus is owning commercial contracting end-to-end, developing templates and playbooks, guiding HIPAA, privacy, governance, and product matters, and coordinating with outside counsel as needed to accelerate deals.

Qualifications

• JD and NY bar admission or eligibility for in-house counsel registration.
• 10+ years of legal experience negotiating complex enterprise SaaS or technology agreements.
• Deep commercial contracting expertise with ability to own negotiations and scale processes.
• Working knowledge of healthcare privacy and HIPAA regulatory considerations.
• Experience advising senior executives and translating legal risks into business actions.
• Comfortable operating independently in a fast-moving environment.

Responsibilities

• Own commercial contracting end to end, including enterprise SaaS agreements, MSAs, BAAs, DPAs, hardware and installation agreements, partnerships, and vendor contracts
• Build scalable legal infrastructure, including contract templates, negotiation playbooks, fallback positions, and approval processes
• Serve as the primary legal advisor to the CEO, leadership team, and board, translating complex legal considerations into practical business recommendations
• Identify and manage healthcare regulatory, privacy, and compliance risks, including reimbursement models, with outside counsel when needed
• Partner with Engineering on customer security and privacy diligence, HIPAA commitments, and incident response
• Advise Product and Engineering on legal considerations involving resident data, HIPAA, AI, connected hardware, and risk allocation for life-safety products
• Support corporate governance, equity administration, financing readiness, intellectual property, and employment matters
• Select and manage outside counsel, balancing legal risk, business priorities, and cost as the company scales
