Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an enthusiastic embedded firmware engineer-intern in Santa Clara, CA, to contribute to firmware for data center and AI hardware. The role emphasizes Python and C, device driver design, and security features across the full product lifecycle.

You will collaborate with hardware, software, QA, and customer solutions teams, participate in testing and automation with Jenkins CI, and support lab testing and customer documentation.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Expected graduation date between Fall 2027 and Summer 2028.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or C.
  • Comfortable working in Windows or Linux-based development environments.
  • Understanding of computer architecture, networking fundamentals (OSI model, TCP/IP), and/or embedded systems.
  • Knowledge or experience with Git, GitHub, or Gerrit.
  • Knowledge or experience with Linux, Makefiles, GDB, IDEs, and bash scripting.
  • Knowledge or experience with ARM CPU, RISC-V, TrustZone, Caliptra, or Trusted Firmware.
  • Knowledge or experience with RTOS architecture, device drivers, and communication protocols.
  • Knowledge or experience with security protocols, digital certificates, and cryptography.
  • Knowledge or experience with DSP concepts.
  • Knowledge or experience with Python/bash scripting, Jenkins CI, and software regression planning.
  • Knowledge or experience with GUI development, lab automation, and customer SDKs.
  • Knowledge or experience with Ethernet, SERDES, switches, and routers.
  • Knowledge or experience with unit testing, system integration, and debugging tools.
  • Must be eligible to access export-controlled information under applicable U.S. law; applicants may be subject to export license review

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain embedded firmware for advanced hardware platforms.
  • Design and implement device drivers and firmware features for communication protocols and RTOS-based systems.
  • Participate in the full product lifecycle from concept and design through implementation, testing, validation, and customer release.
  • Create and enhance Python, shell, and bash automation scripts for testing, failure analysis workflows, and infrastructure management.
  • Develop provisioning software and trusted firmware stacks supporting security features for SoCs, including cryptography and secure protocols.
  • Collaborate with Hardware, System, QA, and Customer Solutions teams on integration, debugging, and performance optimization.
  • Design and execute unit, system, and integration tests, including regression planning and Jenkins continuous integration.
  • Support lab testing and data analysis, including debugging tools, proof-of-concept preparation, and customer documentation.
  • Work on mission-critical features for cloud customers and gain exposure to DSP concepts and networking fundamentals.
  • Debug complex hardware/software issues, perform root cause analysis, and manage fixes through issue tracking systems such as Jira.
