Job summary

City of Appleton is seeking a Firefighter to perform fire suppression, rescue, first aid and public safety duties in a dynamic team setting. This role supports engine or ladder company operations and may advance to driver/engineer after certification.

EMT Basic and Firefighter I certifications are preferred by hire date. Applicants must meet post-secondary education requirements and demonstrate ability to work under supervision and in demanding conditions.

Qualifications

• 60 credits of post-secondary education by date of hire.
• Thorough knowledge of firefighting and emergency techniques and procedures.
• Knowledge of firefighting equipment, tools and apparatus used by the department.

Responsibilities

• Respond to fire and emergency calls as part of engine or truck company.
• Perform firefighting, rescue, first aid and hazardous materials responses.
• Ventilate structures and perform forcible entry as needed.
• Salvage, overhaul and property protection duties.
• Inspect public spaces with the fire prevention program and complete reports.
• Participate in training and drills; may instruct station training.
• Maintain apparatus, equipment, and comply with department policies.
