Job summary

City of Madison, AL seeks a dedicated firefighter to respond to emergencies, extinguish fires, and perform rescue operations. You will work as part of a team to provide EMS care at basic and advanced levels and contribute to life safety education for the community.

The role requires continual training, maintaining EMT certification, and meeting NFPA standards. Expect nonstandard hours, overtime, and potential travel for training and fire prevention duties.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Must complete and obtain Basic EMT license within one year of hire; EMT Basic and Paramedic desirable.
• Must complete Alabama Fire College and Personnel Standards Commission Firefighter II certification within one year; current certification desirable.
• CPR Instructor certification within two years of hire.

Responsibilities

• Responds to emergency calls to provide fire suppression, rescue, hazardous situation mitigation, and EMS assistance.
• Operates as a team member to extinguish fires and perform rescue operations.
• Provides basic life support EMS and educates the public on safety.
• Inspects and maintains department facilities and equipment; conducts fire prevention inspections.
• Documents patient encounters and maintains activity reports.
