IMEG, a 100% employee-owned firm, offers a Summer 2027 Fire Protection Engineering Intern program with 10-12 weeks of real project work in Des Moines, IA. You will assist with design, budgeting, and documentation under the mentorship of experienced engineers and consultants.

The internship emphasizes collaboration across disciplines, accounts for cross-team coordination, and provides exposure to public-safety, industrial, and federal facility projects. Boston/Louisville options exist.

Qualifications

• 2+ years towards BS in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
• Prior internship experience in building design consulting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with design portions of fire protection systems for building projects per code and IMEG standards.
• Research commercially available equipment and supporting resources.
• Support project budgeting and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet goals.
• Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions; monitor progress.
• Coordinate design and schedule information with other disciplines and vendors.
• Review project documents for accuracy and completeness before final check.
• Assist with preparation and issuance of addendum information.
• Conduct periodic job site observations and support required services.
