Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to design protective systems for projects that safeguard lives and property. You will work on hydraulics, water supply, alarms and suppression systems for diverse clients and federal projects.

The role offers a hybrid work environment with offices across several states. You will review designs for federal and local regulations and mentor junior staff while collaborating with sales to develop proposals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Architectural or Chemical Engineering, or in Engineering Technology or related discipline.
• Professional engineering (PE) license.
• 7 years of related experience.
• Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Developing comprehensive fire protection engineering designs, including layouts, baselines, water supply analyses and detailed plans for sprinkler systems.
• Acting as QFPE for federal projects, providing life safety and fire protection analysis.
• Reviewing designs for compliance with NFPA, UFC, state and local regulations.
• Creating fire protection and life safety engineering designs and evaluations as needed.
• Collaborating with sales staff to prepare proposals and respond to RFPs.
• Meeting with clients to review current and future design needs.
• Performing site assessments to ensure compliance with industry standards and local requirements.
• Mentoring junior staff and supervising engineers on project work.
