Job summary

Telgian Engineering & Consulting is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to provide fire protection engineering and consultation services for Telgian clients. You will deliver designs, reports, and presentations to support life safety and protection systems within multi-discipline teams.

You will establish design criteria, review existing systems, and coordinate with authorities to ensure regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• 4-year college degree in Engineering or related field required
• Professional Engineer (PE) certification or ability to obtain it is required
• Ability to travel
• 5+ years field engineering/consulting experience in fire protection and/or architecture preferred
• Working knowledge of Fire, Life Safety and Building Codes, NFPA Standards, UL/FM standards
• Ability to apply broad knowledge of principles and practices in a specific area of practice
• Ability to manage small project of limited complexity
• Ability to evaluate, select and apply standard techniques and procedures and criteria to perform a task
• Working competency with MS Office software
• Ability to perform basic calculations using egress, fire smoke and water modeling software
• Demonstrated proficiency in verbal, written, presentation skills

Responsibilities

• Establish design criteria for fire alarms, suppression and life safety systems based on client needs
• Review existing systems for functionality and compliance; provide improvement recommendations
• Develop and deliver client reports on updates to ensure compliance and operation
• Meet with authorities and clients to resolve compliance questions
• Prepare for and attend appeals and hearings as needed
• Perform fire, smoke, water modeling and related analyses
• Identify design criteria for specific system applications and testing
• Act as Engineer of Record on assigned projects and seal engineering documents as required
• Apply standard techniques and criteria to assigned tasks
• Maintain knowledge of fire protection codes and technologies; propose proactive solutions
