Job summary

Telgian is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to provide fire protection engineering and consultation services as part of a multi-discipline team.

You will establish criteria for design, review systems for compliance, prepare client reports, and collaborate with authorities to resolve regulatory findings, while applying standard techniques and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of fire protection codes and technologies.

Qualifications

• 4-year college degree in Engineering or related field required (Bachelor's).
• Professional Engineer (PE) certification or ability to obtain.
• Ability to travel.
• 5+ years field engineering/consulting in fire protection or architecture (preferred).
• Working knowledge of Fire, Life Safety and Building Codes, NFPA & UL/FM standards.
• Ability to manage small projects of limited complexity.
• Proficiency with MS Office software.
• Ability to perform basic calculations using egress, smoke and water modeling software.
• Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Establish criteria for design of fire alarms, suppression, and life safety systems based on client regulatory needs.
• Review existing fire protection systems for functionality and compliance; recommend improvements.
• Develop and deliver client reports on updates to ensure compliance and operation.
• Meet with authorities and clients to resolve compliance questions.
• Prepare for and attend appeals and hearings to support regulatory findings.
• Model fire, smoke, water distribution and related variables for systems.
• Identify design criteria for specific system applications and testing as required.
• Sign/seal engineering documents as Engineer of Record on assigned projects.
• Apply standard techniques and know-how to assigned tasks.
• Maintain knowledge of relevant fire protection codes and construction technologies.
