Job summary

Telgian seeks a Fire Protection Engineer to provide engineering and consultation services for clients, supporting a multi-discipline team. You will advise on fire protection standards, create reports and design concepts, and deliver technical presentations to clients.

Responsibilities include establishing design criteria for alarms and life safety, reviewing existing systems, and coordinating with authorities to resolve compliance questions. PE certification and travel ability are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)
• Professional Engineer (PE) certification (or ability to obtain)
• Ability to travel
• 5 years field engineering/consulting experience in fire protection or architecture preferred
• Working knowledge of Fire, Life Safety and Building Codes, NFPA and UL/FM standards
• Ability to manage small projects of limited complexity
• Proficiency with MS Office
• Ability to perform basic calculations using egress, smoke and water modeling software
• Strong verbal, written and presentation skills

Responsibilities

• Establish design criteria for fire alarms, suppression and life safety systems based on client needs and codes
• Review existing systems for functionality, compliance and improvements
• Develop and deliver client reports on recommended updates for compliance and operation
• Meet with authorities and clients to resolve compliance questions
• Prepare for and attend appeals/hearings to support regulatory findings
• Perform modeling for fire, smoke, water distribution and related variables
• Act as Engineer of Record on assigned projects with design/consulting teams
• Maintain knowledge of relevant fire protection, risk, building codes, and construction technologies
