Job summary

HDR is seeking a Fire Protection Designer/EIT in Charlotte, NC to support fire protection portions of projects under supervision. You will meet with clients, interpret data for designers, and help ensure design accuracy and code compliance.

This role emphasizes collaboration within an employee-owned culture and ongoing professional development. Qualified candidates have a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering (or related), 2+ years’ experience, and EIT and NICET credentials preferred.

Qualifications

• 2+ years Fire & Life Safety design experience
• EIT certificate preferred; otherwise Design Coordinator path for career progression
• NICET certification desirable
• Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering

Responsibilities

• Assist on the fire protection portions of projects under the direction of a Senior Fire Protection Engineer
• Meet with clients and contractors
• Interpret engineering data for designers and drafters
• Check the drawings on a continuing basis to ensure accuracy and completeness
• Monitor the schedule and budgets for projects
• Review and summarize applicable codes, and record them for inclusion in the design record
• Coordinate work with other disciplines and consultants
• Check contract documents and shop drawings, and answer requests for information
• Assist in writing the specifications in conjunction with the Technical Services Department
• Perform other duties as needed
