Job summary

HDR, Inc. in Charlotte, NC seeks a Fire Protection Designer to develop fire alarm system designs in BIM from engineer/architect data and create contract documents from BIM models.

The role requires knowledge of NFPA standards, multi-discipline design experience, and strong leadership and communication skills to coordinate with engineers, architects and clients. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in a closely related field or a High School diploma with a combination of education and relevant experience
• Entry Level NFPA, ICC Certifications or other specialized credentials related to Fire & Life Safety
• Strong computer skills using AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
• Specialty software experience needed for designs in area of expertise

Responsibilities

• Be capable of creating fire alarm system designs in a BIM model from design information and data provided by the Engineer/Architect
• Generate contract documents from the BIM Model and perform other BIM Uses
• Experience in design analysis software and integration with Revit is a plus
• Must be familiar with NFPA and industry standards design criteria for fire protection systems
• Work with engineers and architects with minimal oversight
• Exhibit excellent leadership and communication skills for coordination with consultants and project team members
• Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication
• Familiarity with codes, Fire & Life Safety design criteria, materials, BIM integration, editing specifications, shop drawings, CPRs and RFIs
