Role Description This is a full-time, Fire Protection Designer role based in the Austin, Texas Metropolitan Area. The Fire Protection Designer will develop detailed fire protection system layouts, including sprinkler, standpipe, and fire alarm designs, using industry-standard design and CAD tools. Daily responsibilities include interpreting architectural and engineering drawings, performing hydraulic calculations, verifying code compliance, and preparing construction documents and shop drawings. The role involves coordinating with project managers, engineers, and field teams, responding to design inquiries, and supporting permitting and approvals with local authorities. The designer will also assist in reviewing project specifications, identifying value-engineering opportunities, and contributing to continuous improvement of design standards and templates.

Qualifications

• Technical design skills for fire protection systems, including ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and MEP drawings, and prepare accurate system layouts.
• Proficiency with CAD or BIM tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) and related design software used for fire protection and building systems documentation.
• Knowledge of relevant codes and standards such as NFPA, IBC, IFC, and local building and fire codes, including experience applying them to real-world projects.
• Analytical skills to perform hydraulic calculations, sizing of piping and equipment, and verification of system performance and compliance.
• Strong organizational and communication skills to manage multiple projects, coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, and document design decisions clearly.
• Attention to detail and quality-focused mindset, with ability to review drawings, catch inconsistencies, and ensure accuracy in all deliverables.
• Ability to work on-site in the Austin, Texas Metropolitan Area, collaborate within a team setting, and adapt to changing project requirements and schedules.
• Relevant education such as an associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, drafting/design technology, or a related field; NICET certification in fire protection or progress toward certification is a plus.
• Experience in fire protection design, building systems engineering, or a closely related discipline; prior work with residential, commercial, or industrial projects is beneficial.
