Responsibilities

• Design fire protection systems using architect‑generated dimensions.
• Perform hydraulic calculations as required.
• Prepare stock listings for the fabrication shop.
• Review all design drawings in detail before fabrication.
• Create design drawing schedules to align permit and fabrication schedules.
• Review all design documents prior to submittal for permit.
• Attend project meetings and job-site visits as needed.
• Document and advise all parties of discrepancies.
• Communicate with field foremen throughout the design process.
• Review submittals for compatibility and engineer requirements.

Skills

Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications

Proficient in AutoCAD and third-party software

Experience with HydraCAD software

Experience with BIM (Navisworks)

Experience with REVIT

General knowledge of NFPA codes

Competent math ability

Good basic computer skills

Detail oriented

Strong organizational skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Education

Minimum of high school diploma or GED equivalent

Training or classes in CAD preferred

Job description

A Fire Protection Designer will produce design drawings and calculations for fire protection systems to support permitting and construction activities. The role also involves building relationships internally and externally to promote TP Mechanical’s fire protection design group professionally.

Responsibilities

• Design fire protection systems using architect‑generated dimensions and structural backgrounds, identifying and resolving coordination issues.
• Perform hydraulic calculations as required.
• Prepare stock listings for the fabrication shop.
• Review all design drawings in detail before fabrication.
• Create design drawing schedules with the project manager to align permit and fabrication schedules.
• Review all design documents prior to submittal for permit and architect/engineer review, stamping and signing all documents.
• Attend project meetings and job‑site visits as needed.
• Document and advise all parties of any discrepancies, unclear intent, or missing information that will affect coordination or design intent.
• Communicate with field foremen throughout the design process, documenting any necessary changes made as a result of coordination.
• Review submittals for size, quantity, and design to ensure they meet engineer requirements, fit available space, and are compatible with equipment purchased from other vendors.
