Job summary

Draper City is seeking a Deputy Fire Marshal to oversee fire prevention, plan review, code enforcement, public education, and investigations. The role may act for the Fire Marshal and requires coordination with Building Department staff and other City partners.

Responsibilities include reviewing plans, conducting inspections, handling complaints, and testifying in hearings. The incumbent leads training and maintains accurate records for fire prevention activities.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in fire science or related field; experience/certification in place of degree.
• Six years of full-time experience as a firefighter, fire inspector, or related field.
• Must hold Utah Fire Inspector I and ICC Fire Inspector I; ICC Fire Inspector II within two years.
• Must hold Utah Fire Investigator and NFA Fire Investigator or equivalent within one year.

Responsibilities

• Review and approve plans for fire and life-safety compliance with city and state codes.
• Inspect fire sprinkler and alarm systems and related life-safety systems.
• Conduct field inspections for new construction, remodels, and occupancies.
• Provide guidance and training to ensure consistent inspections and code enforcement.
