Job summary

Department of Justice seeks a Deputy Fire Marshall to lead fire prevention and investigation duties across Montana. You will enforce fire-safety laws, inspect facilities, and train local agencies while coordinating with public safety partners.

The role reports to the State Fire Marshal and involves communicating with building industry, law enforcement, and government officials to advance fire safety programs statewide.

Qualifications

• Degree in fire-protection engineering or related field with two years’ fire protection experience, OR ICC Fire Inspector I/II certification.
• Knowledge of NFPA codes and fire behavior, and investigation procedures.
• Experience with building inspections and fire prevention programs is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Conduct professional investigations of fires to determine origin and cause.
• Perform fire prevention inspections and enforce applicable laws and regulations.
• Communicate findings to stakeholders and public officials, and maintain records.
