Job summary

The City of Golden Valley is seeking qualified applicants for Fire Inspector I or II to enforce state and city codes and perform fire prevention duties. The role includes responding to calls, performing inspections, and assisting with investigations under the Prevention Division.

Candidates must meet Minnesota state certification requirements and have related firefighting experience. The position may require evening or weekend work and field inspections across properties in Golden Valley.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Minnesota state certifications required for inspection and firefighting duties (e.g., Firefighter II; Hazmat – Operations; NREMT; Fire Apparatus Operator).
• Minimum firefighting experience (2 years for I; 3 years for II).
• Valid Minnesota Class D Driver’s License; eligibility for licensure within six months.
• Eligibility to meet essential duties with or without reasonable accommodations.

Responsibilities

• Fulfill duties of a Golden Valley Firefighter when on duty.
• Inspect residential and commercial properties for code compliance.
• Investigate code violations, issue citations, and conduct follow-up inspections.
• Lead or assist with fire prevention education and outreach.
• Assist other city departments with code compliance and inspections.
