Job summary

Town of Vail Fire Department seeks a Fire Inspector for full-time inspection work to ensure compliance with fire and building codes, review plans, and test fire protection systems. Requires initiative and the ability to provide clear information for consistent code interpretation within the jurisdiction.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED, plus an Associate's degree in Fire Science, Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, or a closely related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in fire inspections or safety inspections.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating ability to perform essential functions.

Responsibilities

  • Performs building and construction inspections related to permits and codes.
  • Advises architects, builders, property owners on fire code requirements.
  • Investigates public complaints concerning violations.
  • Reviews fire codes and interpretations to ensure uniform application.
  • Assists in development of fire prevention methods and observes equipment installations.
  • Assists with technical inspection of occupancies for code compliance.
  • Prepares reports on inspections and investigations.
  • Participates in Special Event Review Committee for permitted events.
