Job summary

City of Fayetteville is seeking a Deputy Fire Marshal to direct, manage, supervise, and coordinate the activities and operations of the Code Enforcement Program of the Fire Department, including fire code compliance activities and related programs; coordinate with other divisions and outside agencies; provide administrative support to the Fire Marshal and Fire Chief.

Qualifications

• Six years of increasingly responsible experience as a fire code official.
• One year of administrative and supervisory responsibility preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability; NIMS certifications listed.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement goals, policies, and priorities for the program.
• Participate in staff selection, supervision, training, and performance evaluations.
• Enforce NC fire code on commercial and residential properties; advise on ordinances and fees.
• Provide staff and customer guidance on technical fire code matters.
• Identify and implement work-method improvements.
• Assist with division budget and resource management.
• Support Public Information Officer duties and website communications.
• Coordinate with schools, businesses, and industry on emergency plans.
• Support community disaster preparedness efforts.
• Participate in safety investigations and related claims processes.
