Job summary

The City of Fayetteville, North Carolina seeks a Deputy Fire Marshal to direct, manage, and coordinate the Code Enforcement Program within the Fire Department. You will oversee fire code compliance, supervise staff, and advise the Fire Marshal and Fire Chief on policy and budget matters.

Ideal candidates will have extensive experience in fire code enforcement, LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS, and strong leadership.

Qualifications

  • Six years of increasingly responsible experience as a fire code official in a governmental environment.
  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade; specialized training in code enforcement, construction technology, or related field.
  • Associate’s degree preferred in fire science, public administration, or business administration.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for the assigned program.
  • Supervise staff and coordinate training; evaluate work and address deficiencies.
  • Enforce the North Carolina fire code for commercial and residential properties in the city.
  • Provide guidance on interpreting fire codes to staff and customers.
  • Assist with division budget and resource management.
  • Support Public Information Officer duties as needed.
  • Collaborate with schools, businesses, and industry on emergency plans and preparedness.

Education

Associate's degree in fire science or public administration
High school diploma or equivalent

Driver's license
NIMS certifications (100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800)
NC Fire Code Standard Level III
