Job summary

Pye-Barker Fire & Safety in Jacksonville, FL is seeking an Alarm & Suppression Estimator who will prepare proposals for fire alarm and suppression systems. You will perform bid layouts, material takeoffs, vendor pricing, and write quotes while coordinating with sales, operations, and design staff to meet fixed bid dates.

The role requires NFPA code knowledge, strong math, and 5+ years estimating or designing related systems. Travel overnight may be required; a valid driver's license is preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience designing or estimating fire alarm systems.
• Familiarity with NFPA codes and ability to read/interpret/apply them.
• Ability to create alarm & suppression layouts and perform material take-offs.
• Strong math skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Self-starter with independent judgment.
• Strong organizational and time management skills; meet deadlines.
• Work effectively within a team and independently.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Commitment to continuous improvement.
• Attention to detail.
• Experience meeting deadlines and safety compliance.
• Willingness to travel overnight occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Perform bid layouts.
• Complete material takeoffs.
• Obtain vendor pricing.
• Write quotes.
• Perform basic calculations and code research.
• Read, interpret, and apply NFPA requirements.
• Collaborate with sales, operations, and design staff.
• Produce timely estimates per fixed bid dates.
• Provide status reports for planning meetings.
• Enter data into operating systems and update Compass.
• Model the company values in daily work.
• Perform other duties as required.
