Job summary

Pye-Barker Fire & Safety is seeking an Alarm & Suppression Estimator to prepare proposals for fire alarm and suppression systems. You will perform bid layouts, material takeoffs, vendor pricing and quotes, while collaborating with sales, operations and design staff to interpret project specifications.

The role requires 2+ years of estimating/designing fire alarm systems, strong math, and proficiency with MS Office. Occasional overnight travel and a focus on safety are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience designing or estimating fire alarm systems.
• Familiarity with NFPA Code and ability to read, interpret, and apply.
• Ability to create alarm & suppression layouts and perform material take-offs.
• Strong math skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Self-starter with independent judgement.
• Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to deliver high quality results by deadlines.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• High School diploma or GED.
• 5+ years of estimating or designing industrial fire alarm and suppression applications, or CCTV, access control, intercom, or security systems preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management or business administration preferred.
• CFPS/NICET certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform bid layouts.
• Complete material takeoffs.
• Obtain vendor pricing.
• Write quotes.
• Produce timely and accurate estimates to fixed bid dates.
• Produce status reports and participate in planning meetings.
• Read, learn, interpret, and apply code requirements for job specs.
• Collaborate with sales, operations and design staff as needed.
• Travel overnight occasionally.
• Adhere to safety policies and company Code of Conduct.
