Job summary

Insitro is seeking a Director of Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting to serve as the technical accounting expert and owner of financial reporting. This role leads audits, complex transactions, and policy setting, with opportunities to grow into SOX and SEC reporting as the company scales.

The position is based at our South San Francisco HQ, onsite three days per week, reporting to the SVP of Accounting & Financial Operations. Hybrid work supports collaboration and scale.

Qualifications

• 8–12+ years of relevant experience, mix of Big 4 public accounting and public company experience, ideally biotech or life sciences
• Active CPA license
• Technical depth in US GAAP and financial reporting with audit-ready accounting positions
• Experience with preclinical and clinical biotech accounting, including R&D and clinical trial accruals
• Experience owning audited financial statements and working with external auditors
• Hands-on experience using AI tools to improve accounting workflows and reporting

Responsibilities

• Direct the annual audit and financial statement process with timely US GAAP statements and footnotes
• Lead the Disclosure Committee and prepare materials for Exec Leadership and Board
• Prepare and update financial reporting content for monthly reporting and investor requests
• Develop and maintain US GAAP accounting policies and monitor FASB developments
• Own stock-based compensation accounting and collaborate on equity grants
• Coordinate with tax advisor on 409A valuation, international compliance, and tax provision
