Job summary

St. Luke’s Hospital is seeking a Financial Counselor to guide patients through billing and financial responsibilities from the registration process to payment at the hospital. The role includes providing cost estimates for uninsured patients and explaining insurance benefits.

Additional duties include screening patients for MO State Medicaid presumptive eligibility, assisting with financial assistance applications, and promoting teamwork within the healthcare team.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma, GED required; Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business or Healthcare Administration preferred.
• Experience: 4-5 years in medical billing, customer service, debt collection or personal finance.
• Knowledge of healthcare insurance and understanding of copays, deductibles and coinsurance preferred.

Position Summary:

The Financial Counselor will have knowledge of all aspects of the department from the registration process through billing. The Financial Counselor meets face-to-face and communicates over the phone with patients at the hospital at the DOC. This role serves as the primary resource for patients navigating complex financial responsibilities, providing cost estimates for uninsured patients, explaining insurance benefits, screening patients for Presumptive Eligibility for MO State Medicaid and assisting patients with financial assistance applications. Responsible for promoting teamwork with all members of the healthcare team. Performs duties in a manner consistent with St. Luke’s mission and values.

Education, Experience, & Licensing Requirements:

Education: High School Diploma, GED required, Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business or Healthcare Administration is preferred.

Experience:4-5 years of experience in medical billing, customer service, debt collection or personal finance. Knowledge of healthcare insurance and understanding of healthcare benefit types such as copays, deductibles and co-insurance is preferred.
