Controller – Professional Employer Organization (PEO)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and hands‑on Controller to lead the accounting function of our growing PEO business. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller will own the full accounting cycle, and drive timely and accurate financial reporting. We’re looking for someone who leads by example and isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves.

Key Responsibilities

The Controller will oversee all aspects of day‑to‑day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger management. They will be responsible for the preparation and review of journal entries, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with GAAP. A core deliverable of this role is the monthly compilation and delivery of complete financial statements to senior leadership and ownership.

They will also serve as the primary owner of the PrismHR platform, ensuring data integrity across payroll, billing, and client accounting workflows, and will manage the QuickBooks integration to ensure seamless data flow and reconciliation between systems.

Additional responsibilities include building scalable processes, developing and implementing KPIs that align with the organization’s financial objectives, maintaining internal controls, supporting the annual audit process, assisting with budgeting and forecasting, and partnering cross‑functionally with operations and client services teams.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.

A minimum of five to seven years of progressive accounting experience is required, with at least two years in a supervisory capacity.

Prior experience in a PEO or HR services environment is required.

Hands‑on experience with PrismHR is required.

Proficiency with QuickBooks and experience managing integrations between platforms is also required.

The candidate must have a strong command of GAAP and demonstrated experience compiling monthly financial statements.
