Job description

A fast-growing, private equity–backed services organization is seeking a Controller to lead and elevate its accounting function. This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting leader who thrives in dynamic, multi-location environments and has experience scaling processes in support of growth and acquisitions.

The company operates in a service-driven model with both recurring field services and project-based work, and is actively expanding through acquisition in a fragmented market.

The Opportunity

This is not a steady-state Controller role. The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening accounting fundamentals, accelerating the monthly close, improving balance sheet discipline, and building a scalable, reliable accounting operation aligned with PE expectations.

The role reports directly to senior finance leadership and partners closely with operations, FP&A, and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all core accounting functions including general ledger, revenue recognition, service accruals, AP/AR oversight, payroll, and intercompany accounting
  • Own and improve the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, with a focus on shortening close timelines and increasing accuracy
  • Ensure timely and complete balance sheet reconciliations and clear ownership of the trial balance
  • Oversee percent-of-completion and service-based accounting in a multi-branch environment
  • Design, implement, and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures suitable for a PE-backed organization
  • Prepare and review GAAP-compliant consolidated financial statements
  • Serve as the primary accounting partner for audits, lenders, and PE stakeholders
  • Support M&A activity, including diligence, integration, and purchase accounting
  • Optimize use of the company’s ERP and service platforms and support upcoming system initiatives
  • Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team
  • Partner cross-functionally with operations and finance leadership, bringing issues forward proactively and constructively
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA strongly preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility
  • Experience in service-based, industrial services, construction, or field-service organizations
  • Strong background in percent-of-completion, service accruals, and multi-entity accounting
  • Prior experience in a private equity–backed environment or similarly high-accountability setting
  • Demonstrated success improving close processes, controls, and team effectiveness
  • Comfortable operating in a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves environment
  • Clear, proactive communicator with the confidence to elevate and elevate issues appropriately
  • Experience with modern ERPs (NetSuite or similar strongly preferred)
Why This Role
  • High visibility and impact within a growing PE-backed platform
  • Opportunity to “own” and elevate the accounting function
  • Exposure to acquisitions and long-term value-creation initiatives
  • Competitive compensation aligned with senior Controller responsibilities
