Job summary

The University of Texas at Arlington is seeking a professional accountant to provide financial analysis and reporting in support of the university's operations. The role emphasizes accuracy, compliance, and proactive process improvements across multiple funds and reporting requirements.

You will work with PeopleSoft and other financial systems, contributing to budgeting, reconciliation, and internal controls while operating in a hybrid work setting that balances remote and on-campus

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Analyze financial data and reconcile accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Evaluate financial activity and prepare/approve accounting transactions.
  • Interpret and validate reports and support external reporting requirements.
  • Monitor budgets and funding sources to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Establish cost centers, vendors, funding sources, and related records.

Job description

Salary

The annual salary for this position ranges from $62,000 to $74,000. The final offer will be commensurate with the candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications.

Purpose of Position

Provides professional accounting and financial analysis in support of the University’s financial operations. Analyzes financial data, prepares reports and reconciliations, ensures compliance with University, UT System, State, and Federal requirements, and provides technical guidance for assigned accounting functions. Supports sound financial management through research, analysis, and process improvement

Essential Functions
  • Analyze financial data, accounting transactions, and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy, compliance, and appropriate use of funds.
  • Evaluate financial activity, identify discrepancies, determine corrective actions, and prepare and process accounting transactions necessary to support assigned functional areas.
  • Interpret, reconcile, and validate financial reports, schedules, and accounting records to support internal management, the Annual Financial Report, UT System, State Comptroller, and other reporting requirements. Research discrepancies, analyze financial results, and recommend corrective actions to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Monitor financial activity, budgets, expenditures, and assigned funds to ensure compliance with University, UT System, State, and Federal policies and regulations.valuate financial trends, identify potential budget or compliance concerns, maintain accounting records, and coordinate with departments to support financial operations.
  • Establish and maintain cost centers, vendors, funding sources, and other accounting elements required to support financial operations and transaction processing.
  • Coordinate accounting setup activities, maintain related records, and ensure the integrity of financial processing.
  • Provide accounting guidance and customer service to the University community. Respond to inquiries and perform other duties necessary to support departmental operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible professional accounting, financial analysis, or related financial management experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Accounting, Finance or a related degree.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in higher education, governmental accounting, or a similarly regulated environment.
  • Experience using PeopleSoft or a comparable ERP system.
  • Experience in an assigned functional area, such as State accounting and USAS.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of GAAP, governmental accounting practices, and applicable financial regulations.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret financial data, research complex accounting issues, and prepare accurate financial reports and reconciliations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial management systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgement, and establish effective working relationships.
Work Schedule
  • Monday through Friday; 8:00am through 5:00pm
  • Requires occasional evening or weekend hours.
  • Hybrid work environment (remote & office)
Working Conditions
  • May work around standard office conditions.
  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
  • Uses standard office equipment.
