Salary

The annual salary for this position ranges from $52,200 to $52,200. The final offer will be commensurate with the candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications.

Purpose of Position

The Athletic Academic Coach is responsible for coordinating and delivering academic support services for student-athletes to promote academic achievement, NCAA eligibility, retention, and graduation. The position provides individualized academic coaching, monitors academic progress, and collaborates with campus and athletics stakeholders to support student-athlete success.

Essential Functions
  • Provide academic coaching for student-athletes to develop organizational skills, time management, study strategies, exam preparation, academic planning, and life skills.
  • Create and coordinate training and development schedules, including tutoring, technology resources, study hall, and other academic support services.
  • Identify, develop, and implement learning initiatives and intervention strategies for at‑risk student-athletes.
  • Communicate and collaborate with faculty, academic advisors, coaches, and campus partners regarding academic progress, deficiencies, team travel, and special academic needs.
  • Assist with Student-Athlete Success program operations, including eligibility certification, recruiting visits, pre-enrollment activities, and academic center operations.
  • Track NCAA, UAC, and institutional eligibility requirements by maintaining accurate academic records and monitoring student-athlete progress.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of experience in advisory, administrative or educational capacity with college students or six (6) years of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree
  • Professional experience and knowledge of NCAA Division I eligibility requirements
  • Experience in academic advising and life skills development
  • Experience hiring and training staff
  • Experience with Peoplesoft, Microsoft Office, Tutortrac, Timeclock, LSDBi
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent organizational and problems solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong group presentation skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff at all levels, experience planning student events or activities.
  • Ability to lead in a complex and constantly changing environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to give and interpret personality testing and academic testing (Pearson BASI or similar assessment tool).
  • Knowledge/experience in student development, advising, learning and retention theories.
Work Schedule
  • Monday through Friday; 8:00am through 5:00pm
  • Some nights and weekends may be necessary especially for responsibilities related to team travel and recruiting.
Working Conditions
  • May work around standard office conditions.
  • Requires occasional evening or weekend hours
