Charleston construction company seeking qualified Financial Accounting Manager to join their team! The Financial Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the company’s accounting operations, payroll administration, job costing, financial reporting, and insurance coordination within a construction environment. This role ensures accurate financial records, compliance with tax and regulatory requirements, and timely reporting to support operational and strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Administration

• Process weekly/bi-weekly payroll and ensure accuracy of employee compensation.
• Prepare and post payroll-related journal entries, including benefits and deductions.
• Manage 401(k) deposits, reconciliations, and year-end reporting information, including Form 5500 support.
• Calculate and post labor burden allocations and related journal entries.
• Prepare and file quarterly payroll tax returns.
• Prepare quarterly unemployment reports and ensure timely payments.

Owner Invoicing & Accounts Receivable

• Prepare owner billings using AIA billing software.
• Record associated journal entries to job cost accounting.
• Process and record accounts receivable deposits.
• Monitor outstanding receivables and assist with collections as needed.

Job Cost Accounting

• Enter initial project estimates and budgets for new construction projects.
• Maintain and adjust cost codes before and after Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting.
• Support project managers with job cost tracking and reporting.
• Assist in preparation and review of WIP schedules.
• Perform monthly bank reconciliations.
• Review and approve check registers.
• Record miscellaneous cash deposits and journal entries.
• Prepare monthly close reports and supporting schedules.
• Reconcile prepaid expenses and accrued liabilities.
• Assist with year-end close and external audit preparation.
• Prepare and monitor overhead budgets.
• Review and approve overhead invoices for payment.
• Prepare and file sales tax returns.
• Coordinate insurance audits and policy renewals.

Health & Liability Insurance Administration

• Coordinate annual health insurance renewals.
• Manage employee health insurance enrollments, claims, and cancellations.
• Coordinate general liability insurance package renewals and related documentation.

Fleet Management Coordination

• Coordinate with company partners on purchasing and selling company vehicles.
• Assist with vehicle insurance administration and renewals.
• Maintain accurate company vehicle and equipment lists.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
• 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry.
• Strong understanding of construction job costing and AIA billing procedures.
• Experience with payroll processing and payroll tax compliance.
• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
• Knowledge of WIP reporting and construction financial practices preferred.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
