Job summary

The New York State Department of Financial Services is seeking an experienced Supervisory Field Support Lead for the Banking Operations team. The role focuses on examiner development, risk analysis, and post-exam feedback to enhance supervisory performance and consistency across examinations.

You will coach examiners on asset quality, earnings, liquidity, and capital adequacy, review ROEs, and contribute to on-the-job training and material development.

Qualifications

• Eleven years of specialized work experience in financial institution examinations; two years at a managerial level.
• Degrees may substitute for years of experience as described in the substitutions section.
• Commissioned Examiner or advanced certifications such as CFE or CFA.
• Experience with federal or state regulatory agencies overseeing financial institutions.
• Mentoring junior examiners or supporting internal training programs.
• Familiarity with CAMELS ratings and supervisory frameworks.
• Strong knowledge of asset quality, earnings, capital, liquidity, (IRR), and loan review methodologies.
• Ability to review and improve written examination products (ROEs).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to coach and provide feedback diplomatically.

Responsibilities

• Lead examiner development with a train-the-trainer model for examiner supervisors.
• Observe and assess examiner knowledge in applying risk assessment methodologies across key risk areas.
• Guide examiners in evaluating earnings, capital, liquidity, interest rate risk, and loan review.
• Provide real-time feedback and coaching during on-site or remote examinations.
• Draft preliminary examination comments and ensure clear articulation of findings.
• Collaborate to identify learning gaps and translate trends into follow-up training.
• Support onboarding, mentoring, and long-term examiner capability-building efforts.
• Review draft ROEs to ensure accuracy and alignment with DFS standards.
• Develop concise job aids, case studies, and workshops with the Training office.
