Job summary

Intertek CEA in Fairfax, Virginia seeks a Field Testing Technician II (Crew Lead/In House Training) to lead field testing projects and manage your own assignments. The role includes setting up test chambers, operating testing equipment, and coordinating with clients and project teams.

You will travel frequently, mentor junior staff, and ensure safety and quality standards are met. On-the-job training is provided, with opportunities for growth within Building and Construction.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• 2+ years of hands-on experience in commercial construction, building envelope or fenestration.
• Ability to learn building envelope systems and installation methods.
• Knowledge of test methods/standards, or ability to learn them.
• Ability to lead a crew and manage projects on site.
• Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
• Effective client and subcontractor relationship building.

Responsibilities

• Lead field testing projects, data collection and report writing.
• Set up for testing including rough carpentry to construct test chambers.
• Operate equipment on building interiors and interact with customers during testing.
• Operate high reach lift equipment (boom lifts, scaffolding).
• Assist with forensic investigations of building envelope failures.
• Communicate site observations and test prep with clients and project team.
• Plan on-site logistics such as water, electricity, and access.
• Travel with overnight stays; company covers travel and per diem.
• Perform physical work relevant to duties; lift up to 50 pounds and climb stairs/ladders.
