Job summary

Sunstate Equipment Co. in Charleston, SC, is hiring a diesel mechanic with 4+ years’ experience in construction equipment or rental background. You will troubleshoot electrical and hydraulic systems, repair diesel and gas engines, and work with Tier 4 aftertreatment systems.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years’ experience as a diesel mechanic in construction equipment or rental.
• Troubleshooting and diagnosing diesel engines, electrical and hydraulic systems; Tier 4 and aftertreatment knowledge.
• Experience repairing diesel/gas engines, electrical, hydraulics, pneumatics, and drivetrains.
• Must have tools worth $10,000+ to perform work.
• Experience with industrial pumps, power equipment, and HVAC is a plus.
• TWIC or OSHA Basic Plus preferred; willing to obtain if not on hand.
• Basic computer skills for service work orders and parts ordering.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, service, and test equipment to meet manufacturer specifications.
• Perform routine service including fluid checks and lubrication.
• Conduct novice welding repairs (MIG & SMAW).
• Prepare and maintain maintenance and repair records including warranty notes.

Required Skills & Experience

• A minimum of 4 years’ experience as diesel mechanic, with a construction equipment or rental background required.
• Proficient troubleshooting and diagnosing skills with electrical and hydraulic systems, diesel engines, including Tier 4 and aftertreatment systems required.
• Experience performing major and minor repairs on diesel and gas engines, electrical, hydraulics, pneumatics, as well as drive trains is required.
• Must have the necessary tools you need to do the job; averaging $10,000+ in value.
• Having mechanic experience working on industrial pumps, power equipment, and HVAC is a plus!
• Having a TWIC or Safety Council OSHA Basic Plus certification is preferred, will need to obtain if not held.
• Basic computer knowledge for service work orders, parts ordering, and service related tasks.
• Inspect, service, and test equipment, ensuring performance to manufacturer specifications.
• Perform routine service on equipment which includes checking fluid levels, changing fluid and lubricating.
• Perform novice level welding repairs (MIG & SMAW).
• Prepare and maintain accurate records on the maintenance and repair of equipment, including warranty records.
