Job summary

Lumen Technologies, headquartered in Cincinnati, OH, seeks a Field Technician II to install, troubleshoot, and maintain diverse telecom equipment across the network. You’ll work under minimal supervision on the outside plant, ensuring fiber, transport gear, and critical infrastructure operate reliably.

The role requires 2+ years in telecom field services, knowledge of DS1/DS3/SONET, and proficiency with Windows; a valid driver's license is essential.

Qualifications

• 2+ years’ experience installing, testing, and turn‑up of telecommunication equipment including SONET, DCS, DWDM, routers and switches.
• Strong technical and mechanical background with experience on transport gear and critical infrastructures (HVAC, high‑voltage systems, DC power).
• Knowledge of locating fiber, right‑of‑way and as‑builts; ability to use corporate databases.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots network equipment and restores service; identifies problem areas and coordinates resolution.
• Installs/changes/decommissions and tests Next Gen technologies (Edge Compute, Wavelength, Fiber Optic Transport, Ethernet, SONET, IP).
• Performs AC power (limited) and DC power installs; handles large Netbuild management duties.
• Manages asset processes and on‑site materials; coordinates shipping/receiving and keeps tools and equipment ready.
• Performs preventative maintenance on network/critical infrastructure including HVAC and high‑voltage systems.
• Updates inventory and time logs; communicates status to management and team.
