Job summary

SAM (Surveying And Mapping, LLC) is seeking a Geomatics Crew Chief to lead daily field operations for land surveying crews in the Melville, NY area. The role emphasizes planning data acquisition, documenting work, and coordinating with project surveys and technicians.

The position requires 5+ years in the field, experience with total stations and GNSS, and a strong ability to travel and work in varied weather. Licensure and Trimble familiarity are preferred.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of industry experience; crew chief experience preferred.
• Competent operating total stations, GNSS receivers, data collectors, and tablet PCs.
• Experience with Trimble equipment preferred.
• Part 107 licensure or ability to obtain licensure.
• Strong computer and technical skills.
• Strong communication skills (listening, writing and verbal).
• Proven work history, strong work ethic, and team-player attitude.
• Ability to travel for extended periods.
• Ability to work in all-weather climates.
• Ability to walk long distances through varied terrains and carry up to 80lbs.
• Valid driver's license and ability to meet company MVR standards, clean background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• The geomatics crew chief oversees the daily field operations of a land survey crew.
• Determine most efficient plan of action for data acquisition for field surveys ranging from primary control through construction layout and as-built surveys, as needed.
• Proficient with documentation of work performed and sketches.
• Communicate daily with Project Surveyor and technician regarding land survey project schedule and work progress.
• Interact professionally with client representative and land owners.
• Read and interpret construction drawings/specifications and understand all aspects of the land survey project specifications and tolerances.
• Prepare daily reports, time sheets, and other required paperwork.
• Maintain land surveying vehicle and field equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.
