Responsibilities
Position Overview We are seeking a Field Services Technician - Junior to support the installation, transition, and sustainment of next-generation Voice Communication Switch (VCS) systems . This role will assist with site preparation, system installation, cutover, customer acceptance, testing, and legacy system decommissioning in operational environments.
The ideal candidate has a technical foundation in telecommunications, networking, electronics, IT, or a related field and is interested in developing hands-on experience supporting mission-critical voice systems . The technician will work alongside experienced field technicians, engineers, and program teams to complete deployments, troubleshoot issues, and ensure systems are installed and transitioned according to established procedures.
This position is remote with approximately 95% travel requirements and may require extended periods at customer and operational sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Support site surveys, site preparation, equipment installation, and system deployment activities under the direction of senior technicians and engineers
- Assist with VCS system cutovers from legacy voice platforms to next-generation systems
- Support the decommissioning and removal of legacy voice communication systems
- Perform basic system testing and validation to verify:
- Power and equipment connections
- Cabling integrity and connectivity
- Equipment installation and site specifications
- Assist with maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of VCS and supporting telecommunications/IT infrastructure
- Use basic diagnostic tools and established procedures to help identify voice, network, and hardware issues
- Support preventive maintenance and system health checks
- Assist with on-site customer support and provide basic end-user assistance or orientation as needed
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, service reports, installation records, and cutover documentation
- Learn and follow established safety protocols, site security requirements, and operational procedures
- Work closely with senior field technicians, engineers, program teams, and other technical personnel during deployment and transition activities
- Escalate complex technical issues to senior technicians or engineers and assist with troubleshooting and resolution
- Learn and develop proficiency with VCS systems, telecommunications equipment, testing procedures, and field deployment processes
Junior FST primary focus areas
- Test support activities at the FAA WJHTC (New Jersey)
- Test support activities at VCS vendors locations (Maryland)
- Test support activities at Washington Labs (Maryland)
- Junior FST when paired for FAA VCS ATC cutover support (not lead)

Qualifications
Technical Qualifications
- US Citizenship with the ability to obtain/maintain a Public Trust Clearance.
- 2 years of experience with BS; 0 years with MS; 4 years with an AS; 6 years in lieu of a degree
- Familiarity with Voice Communication Switch (VCS) systems , telecommunications systems, or similar voice/network technologies
- Exposure to system cutovers, migrations, installations, or technology refresh efforts is preferred
- Basic knowledge of:
- Telecommunications infrastructure
- VoIP technologies
- Cabling and connectivity
- Power and equipment validation
- Networked voice systems
- Basic troubleshooting and diagnostic skills , with the ability to identify and elevate issues as needed
- Experience using basic test equipment and diagnostic tools in technical or field environments
- Ability to learn and follow established procedures in operational environments where system uptime and reliability are important
