Join AMSC as Field Services Engineer. The role involves site surveys, power quality testing, failure analysis, on‑site commissioning, customer training, factory testing support and global field service reporting with 50% travel.
Responsibilities
- Perform site surveys and power quality testing, prepare reports for customers or internal sales.
- Conduct root cause analysis of premature component failures, recommend reliability actions.
- On‑site commissioning of D‑VAR, PQ‑SVC systems, inverter components and control electronics for domestic and international customers.
- Train customers on operation and maintenance practices.
- Assist Engineering & Manufacturing with factory testing of new units.
- Provide written communications regarding customer units, produce and maintain service reports, monthly and weekly reports to management.
- Manage field change order process, monitor customer units using DAS and remote monitoring.
- Travel globally 50% of time, maintain inventory, schedule routine maintenance, startup/commissioning activities.
- Conduct trend analysis of field service database, carry out trend analysis, oversee service pager usage.
- Follow company purchasing authorization procedures and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Engineering degree in a technical field, Electrical Engineering preferred.
- 5‑7 years’ experience in electrical power, electronics, communication systems; education can be substituted.
- Working knowledge of electrical power circuits, power electronics, and ability to read schematics.
- Computer knowledge in Windows environment; medium voltage safety training required.
- Strong written and oral communication skills; self‑directed, motivated, work both teams and independently, attention to detail.
- Basic knowledge of NEC, IEEE standards for electrical installations; medium work with occasional heavy work up to 75 pounds.
