Job summary

Progressive Machine & Design, LLC in Victor, NY is launching a brand-new Service Department and is seeking hands-on Field Service Technicians to grow with us. You will support both in-house system builds and customer service activities, helping install, debug, and maintain custom automation systems.

Two years of related experience are expected, with a focus on mechanical and electrical troubleshooting. The role requires travel and strong communication skills; in-house and field roles include

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in manufacturing, maintenance, automation, or related technical fields.
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Comfortable using basic tools and diagnostic equipment.
• Willingness to travel (~10% – 30%).
• Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Experience with automation, PLCs, robotics, or vision systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Install, startup, and service support at customer sites.
• Assist with machine assembly, debugging, and checkout in the shop.
• Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.

Compensation

• $27 - $37/hr, based on experience
• Overtime opportunities
• 10% pay premium while travelling + per diem)

Major Duties & Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

You'll support both in-house system builds and customer service activities, helping install, debug, and maintain custom automation systems.

• Assist with installation, startup, and service support at customer sites
• Support machine assembly, debug, and checkout activities in the shop
• Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems
• Assist with PLC, HMI, robotics, motion, and vision systems
• Support FAT and SAT activities
• Learn and develop hands-on experience with advanced automation technologies

Technical Scope

You will gain experience working with a wide range of industrial automations technologies and platforms, including

Controls & Automation

• PLC/HMI platforms (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens)
• Industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus)

Robotics & Vision

• Industrial robots (e.g., Fanuc, ABB, KUKA)
• Vision systems (e.g., Cognex, Keyence)

Systems Integration

• Electrical troubleshooting, panel systems, and field wiring
• Pneumatics and mechanical systems
• Integration of peripherals and custom equipment

Minimum Skills & Abilities

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

• 2+ years of experience in manufacturing, maintenance, machine tools, automation, service, or related technical fields
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
• Comfortable using basic tools and diagnostic equipment
• Willingness to learn controls, robotics, and related automation systems technologies
• Ability to work independently and as part of team
• Comfortable interacting with customers onsite and remotely as needed
• Strong communication skills both written and verbalWillingness to travel (~10% - 30%)
• Preferred Experience
• OEM machine build or field service experience
• Exposure to PLCs, robotics, HMI’s, and/or vision systems
• Maintenance or automation technician background

Minimum Education & Experience
