Job summary

Ohio CAT is seeking a Field Service Technician to diagnose, repair, and maintain Caterpillar machines in the field. You will work from a service truck servicing and performing repairs on dozers, excavators, wheel loaders, and haul trucks to keep customers moving.

Responsibilities include diagnostics, complex repairs, equipment inspection, servicing HVAC systems, maintaining detailed records, collaborating with technicians, and upholding safety protocols in a dynamic field environment.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED and a 2-year technical program in diesel or power equipment systems, plus at least 3 years of industry experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on mechanical repair experience with diesel, earthmoving, or industrial equipment.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record and ability to obtain a DOT Medical Card.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain Caterpillar machines in the field from a service truck.
  • Perform routine and complex repairs, inspect and maintain equipment, and rebuild components.
  • Service Air Conditioning, keep detailed service records, collaborate with other technicians, and follow safety protocols.

Job Summary

As aFieldService Technician, you'll be at the heart of what we do:diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining Caterpillar machines in the field. Whether it's a dozer, excavator, wheel loader,haul truck, you'll use your skills and experience to deliver top-tier service that keeps our customers moving. You will work in the field from a service truck servicing and performing:

  • Diagnosticsand repair on heavy equipment, includingCaterpillarengines and drive-train components, electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Perform routine and complex repairs, inspect and maintain equipment, and rebuildcomponents to ensure optimal performance.
  • Additional duties include servicing Air Conditioning systems, maintaining detailed service records, collaborating with fellow technicians on complex repairs, and adhering to all safety protocols.
Competencies
  • Proficient reading and writing skills
  • Strong mechanical and mathematical aptitude
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Familiarity with Caterpillar engine and equipment lines
  • In-depth knowledge of Caterpillar equipment applications, operations, and functions
  • Skilled in using Caterpillar diagnostic tools (Electronic Technician, Service Information System)
  • Expertise in diagnostic, testing, adjustment, and troubleshooting procedures
  • Welding experience is a plus
Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED is required, along with completion of a technical school program (minimum 2 years) focused on diesel or power equipment systems, plus at least 3 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands‑on mechanical repair experience with diesel, earthmoving, or industrial equipment
  • Must have a valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record following Ohio CAT standards and have the ability to obtain a DOT Medical Card if one is not already possessed.

Physical Requirements

Lifting/Carrying 40 lb. Lift/Carry and 50lb pulling. Standing, sitting, and climbing up and down stairs, as well as standing, sitting, and climbing into machines. Dexterity Normal. Repetitive Motions: Frequent movements requiring the use of hands, wrists, and fingers. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet in office settings and moderate to loud in other situations, with both constant and sudden loud noises possible.
