Job summary

Ohio CAT is seeking a Field Service Technician to diagnose, repair, and maintain Caterpillar machines in the field and in shop settings. You will operate a company service truck, perform diagnostics, routine and complex repairs, and ensure safe, reliable operation for our customers.

The role requires hands-on experience with diesel engines and heavy equipment, CDL with clean record, and the ability to read technical manuals and service records; welding is a plus, with opportunities for ongoing

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required, plus a 2-year diesel or power equipment tech program.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant industry experience; total hands-on repair experience targeted at heavy equipment.
  • CDL with acceptable driving record; ability to obtain DOT Medical Card.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair heavy Caterpillar engines and drive-train components, electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Perform routine and complex repairs; inspect, maintain, and rebuild components for optimal performance.
  • Service air conditioning systems, maintain detailed service records, collaborate with technicians, follow safety protocols.

Job Summary

As a FieldService Technician, you’ll be at the heart of what we do:diagnosing, repairing, and maintainingCaterpillarmachines out in the field. Whether it’s a dozer, excavator, wheel loader, or haul truck, you’ll use your skills and experience to deliver top-tier service that keeps our customers moving. You will work out of a company service truck servicing and performing:

  • Diagnosticsand repair on heavy equipment, includingCaterpillarengines and drive-train components, electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Perform routine and complex repairs, inspect and maintain equipment, and rebuilding components to ensure optimal performance.
  • Additional duties include servicing Air Conditioning systems, maintaining detailed service records, collaborating with fellow technicians on complex repairs, and adhering to all safety protocols within the shop environment.

  • In-depth knowledge of Caterpillar equipment applications, operations, and functions
  • Skilled in using Caterpillar diagnostic tools (Electronic Technician, Service Information System)
  • Expertise in diagnostic, testing, adjustment and troubleshooting procedures
  • Welding experience is a plus
Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED is required, along with completion of a technical school program (minimum 2 years) focused on diesel or power equipment systems, plus at least 3 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands‑on experience in repairing diesel engines, heavy equipment, and components (final drives, torque convertors, transmissions, undercarriage, etc.)
  • Must have a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with an acceptable driving record following Ohio CAT standards and have the ability to obtain a DOT Medical Card if one is not already possessed.

Physical Requirements
  • Lifting/Carrying 40 lb. Lift/Carry and 50lb pulling.
  • Standing and sitting up and downstairs, as well as standing, sitting, and climbing into machines.
  • Dexterity Normal.
  • Repetitive Motions: Frequent movement requiring hands, wrists, and fingers.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet in office settings and moderate to loud in other situations, with both constant and sudden loud noises possible.
