Job summary

Ohio CAT in Kentucky is seeking a Service Technician to diagnose, repair, and maintain Caterpillar machines in our shop, from dozers to wheel loaders. You’ll perform diagnostics, repairs, and routine servicing to keep customers running.

The role requires deep knowledge of Caterpillar engines, systems, and diagnostic tools; strong reading/writing, math, and a hands-on mindset; a high school diploma and technical training plus 5 years of diesel/mechanical repair experience.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED with a 2-year diesel/power equipment tech program and at least 3 years of industry experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on mechanical repair experience with diesel, earthmoving, or industrial equipment.
  • Proficiency in reading and writing with strong mechanical and mathematical aptitude.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair heavy equipment, including Caterpillar engines and drive-train components, electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Perform routine and complex repairs, inspect and maintain equipment, and rebuild components for optimal performance.
  • Service air conditioning systems, maintain detailed service records, collaborate with technicians on complex repairs, and follow safety protocols in the shop.

As a Service Technician, you’ll be at the heart of what we do: diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining Caterpillar machines in the shop. Whether it’s a dozer, excavator, wheel loader, haul truck, you’ll use your skills and experience to deliver top‑tier service that keeps our customers moving. You will work in the shop servicing and performing:

  • Diagnostics and repair on heavy equipment, including Caterpillar engines and drive‑train components, electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Perform routine and complex repairs, inspect and maintain equipment, and rebuild components to ensure optimal performance.
  • Additional duties include servicing Air Conditioning systems, maintaining detailed service records, collaborating with fellow technicians on complex repairs, and adhering to all safety protocols within the shop environment.

  • In-depth knowledge of Caterpillar equipment applications, operations, and functions
  • Skilled in using Caterpillar diagnostic tools (Electronic Technician, Service Information System)
  • Expertise in diagnostic, testing, adjustment, and troubleshooting procedures
  • Welding experience is a plus
Job Qualifications

Physical Requirements

Lifting/Carrying 40 lb. Lift/Carry and 50lb pulling. Standing, sitting, and climbing up and down stairs, as well as standing, sitting, and climbing into machines. Dexterity Normal. Repetitive Motions: Frequent movements requiring the use of hands, wrists, and fingers. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet in office settings and moderate to loud in other situations, with both constant and sudden loud noises possible.
