Job Description

Job Summary

Generator Service Technicians are responsible for performing shop and/or field repairs, maintenance, troubleshooting of diesel and gas generators, including automatic transfer switches, batteries, and load banks.

Essential Job Functions

1. Perform mechanical, electrical troubleshooting and repair of generators.
2. Provide emergency repairs during and outside normal hours, including weekends and holidays.
3. Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and repairs.
4. Read and interpret manuals, schematics, work orders for maintenance and repairs.
5. Perform basic mathematical calculations.
6. Utilize hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment.
7. Detect and report faulty operations or defective materials.
8. Follow safety regulations and maintain clean work areas.
9. Drive company vehicle to job sites; overnight travel may be required.

Additional Job Functions

• Use welding tools, winch, pulley, hoist, and pallet jack as needed.
• Tow trailers, generators, or load banks using company vehicle.

Required Experience and Skills

• Knowledge of power generation systems and components.
• Proficiency with generator and transfer switch controls.
• Strong mechanical and electrical skills.
• Ability to interpret schematics and manuals.
• Basic mathematical skills.
• Adherence to safety procedures, use of PPE, NFPA 70E when applicable.
• Mechanical tool proficiency.
• Ability to work in outdoor and extreme conditions.
• Physical ability to stand, sit, bend, lift up to 100 lbs.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
• 5-7 years of related experience or training.
• Good standing Motor Vehicle Record.
