Job summary

Johnson Controls, Inc. seeks an engineering technician to work on large‑scale HVAC and refrigeration systems in field/facility environments. The role emphasizes startup, commissioning, and ongoing service for mission‑critical cooling setups at customer sites.

You will read blueprints, install components, test systems, and troubleshoot PLC‑based controls, collaborating with design and manufacturing teams to ensure reliable performance. Travel is required.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid driver’s license and high school diploma or GED.
• Knowledge of operating principles of cooling/refrigeration equipment and systems.
• Knowledge of electricity and electrical/solid-state control systems.
• Safety practices and building codes; strong customer service skills.
• Experience with start-up and commissioning at customer facilities.
• Ability to read blueprints, specifications, and schematics.
• Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
• Willingness to travel to customer locations (domestic and international).
• Aptitude and communication skills for independent work.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret electrical, control, and mechanical blueprints and drawings.
• Measure and lay out reference points for installation.
• Assemble and install refrigeration or air conditioning components.
• Measure and cut piping; connect piping using welding/brazing equipment.
• Start up system and test for leaks; recharge refrigerant and calibrate.
• Troubleshoot and repair HVAC/refrigeration equipment and PLC-based controls.
• Work independently, communicate with customers and internal teams.
• Maintain records and prepare reports on field activities.
