Job summary

Hitachi Energy Ltd. is seeking a Field Service Technician to join our US Services HUB and gain hands‑on experience in transformer maintenance, service, repair, and troubleshooting across substations nationwide.

You will learn to operate Vacuum Oil Processors (VOPs), apply mechanical skills, and support testing and documentation while traveling up to 85% of the time.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED plus 2+ years of professional experience in a technical or mechanical field.
• Military training or experience is considered equivalent and strongly encouraged.
• Must have work authorization to employment with Hitachi Energy in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Work with experienced Field Service Technicians to develop transformer maintenance and troubleshooting expertise.
• Perform precision mechanical work in high‑voltage substations under supervision.
• Assist with diagnostic assessments, preventive maintenance, and transformer testing.

As a Field Service Technician within our growing US Services HUB, you’ll gain hands‑on experience working in electrical substations across the country. Alongside experienced senior technicians, you’ll learn how to inspect, maintain, service, troubleshoot, and repair transformer equipment while developing valuable technical expertise in areas such as vacuum oil processing, equipment diagnostics, and transformer testing.

How You’ll Make An Impact

• Work alongside experienced Field Service Technicians to develop expertise in transformer maintenance, service, repair, and troubleshooting.
• Perform precision mechanical work in high‑voltage electrical substations under the guidance of senior technicians.
• Apply technical, mechanical, or military‑acquired skills to hands‑on field service activities.
• Inspect equipment and assist with diagnostic assessments and preventive maintenance activities.
• Operate Vacuum Oil Processors (VOPs) and oil‑handling equipment with training and oversight.
• Support transformer testing, maintain accurate processing logs, and use digital tools for documentation and site reporting.
• Learn to interpret technical data and apply findings to help solve customer equipment challenges.
• Collaborate with senior field professionals, engineering teams, and customers to support effective maintenance strategies.

Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your background

• High school diploma/GED plus 2+ years of professional experience in a technical or mechanical field. Relevant military technical training or experience is considered equivalent and strongly encouraged.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and ability to travel up to 85% nationwide.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and perform physically demanding activities for extended periods.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and work days of up to 12 hours when required.
• Class A CDL and/or welding certification or experience is preferred and can strengthen your field capabilities.
• Must already have work authorization that would permit employment with Hitachi Energy in the United States.
