Job summary

Hitachi Energy is seeking a hands-on Field Service Technician to support transformer service across the United States. You will perform installation, maintenance, testing, and oil processing at customer sites, traveling up to 85% and reporting to the Regional Field Operation Manager.

You will read drawings and manuals, repair and assemble transformer components, operate oil processing equipment, and coordinate logistics while delivering exceptional customer service and building trusted customer

Qualifications

  • Associate degree with at least 2 years of professional work experience.
  • High school diploma/GED with at least 5 years of professional work experience.
  • Broad knowledge of transformer field service operations and transformer field testing.
  • Experience with Load Tap Changer (LTC) maintenance and repair, transformer tank welding above or below oil, and/or a Class A CDL is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver professional field service including installation, commissioning, maintenance, repairs, upgrades, retrofits, and end-of-life services.
  • Perform transformer assembly and internal work (bushing connections, lead clearance, tapping, crimping, taping).
  • Read and work from mechanical/electrical drawings and manuals.
  • Repair, re-gasket, assemble, and disassemble transformer equipment.
  • Operate Vacuum Oil Processors (VOPs) and oil-handling equipment and maintain logs.
  • Coordinate resources, spare parts, and logistics for field service projects.
  • Build strong customer relationships by anticipating needs and delivering excellent service.
  • Identify opportunities and recommend product/process/service improvements.

We’re looking for a hands‑on Field Service Technician who is ready to bring technical expertise directly to our customers and make an impact where it matters most.

As part of the US Services HUB, you’ll provide critical technical support for Transformer Service, working remotely and at customer sites across the country. Reporting to the Regional Field Operation Manager, you’ll apply your knowledge of transformer installation, maintenance, repair, testing, and oil processing to help customers keep essential equipment operating safely and reliably.

How you’ll make an impact
  • Deliver professional field service, including installation, commissioning, maintenance, repairs, upgrades, retrofits, and end‑of‑life services.

  • Read and work independently from mechanical and electrical drawings, technical manuals, and applicable instructions.
  • Repair, re‑gasket, assemble, and disassemble transformer equipment using appropriate mechanical tools and procedures.
  • Operate and maintain Vacuum Oil Processors (VOPs) and oil‑handling equipment with direction and complete required processing logs.
  • Coordinate resources, spare parts, and logistics to support successful execution of field service projects.
  • Build strong customer relationships by anticipating needs, resolving technical challenges, and consistently delivering excellent service.
  • Identify potential business opportunities and recommend product, process, and service improvements in collaboration with teams across Hitachi Energy.

Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your background
  • Associate degree with at least 2 years of professional work experience, or high school diploma/GED with at least 5 years of professional work experience.
  • Broad knowledge of transformer field service operations and transformer field testing.
  • Working expertise in transformer installation and assembly, vacuum and oil processing, shell and/or core form transformer designs, and internal transformer components.
  • Experience with Load Tap Changer (LTC) maintenance and repair, transformer tank welding above or below oil, and/or a Class A CDL is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel up to 85%.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and stand, stoop, bend, and walk for extended periods, including shifts of up to 12 hours.
