Job summary

Hitachi Energy USA Inc. is seeking an apprentice for our field service team to support transformer technology and grid reliability. You will gain hands-on training in transformer service, maintenance, and diagnostics while working with senior technicians across the US.

Travel up to 85% nationwide, learn safety practices, and develop skills with Vacuum Oil Processors and oil handling equipment. Valid driver's license and work authorization required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED plus 2+ years of professional work experience in technical or mechanical fields.
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record and ability to travel up to 85% nationwide.
• Class A CDL preferred for operating specialized service vehicles.
• Welding certification or experience preferred for enhanced field capabilities.
• Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Perform precision mechanical work in high-voltage electrical substations across diverse geographical regions under the guidance of senior technicians.
• Work side-by-side with experienced Field Service Technicians to learn transformer maintenance, service procedures, and troubleshooting techniques.
• Apply technical, mechanical, or military-acquired skills to real-world field service applications.
• Conduct equipment inspections and diagnostic assessments to support preventive maintenance efforts.
• Assist in servicing and repairing transformer systems using established processes and tools.
• Learn to analyze technical data and apply findings to critical customer challenges.
• Operate Vacuum Oil Processors (VOPs) and oil handling equipment with training and oversight.
• Maintain accurate processing logs and support transformer testing activities.
• Collaborate with engineering teams, senior field staff, and customers to support maintenance strategies.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable safety, environmental, and internal procedures.

Your Background

Relevant military training or experience is considered equivalent and strongly encouraged Valid driver’s license with clean driving record and ability to travel up to 85% nationwide Physical capability to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, and perform demanding tasks for extended periods Comfort working outdoors in all weather conditions for up to 12 hours daily Class A CDL preferred for operating specialized service vehicles Welding certification or experience preferred for enhanced field capabilities Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States
