Job summary

NextGenEnergyJobs is seeking a field service technician to provide fuel cell service during dispatches, operate a service vehicle, and manage on-site maintenance with autonomy. You will diagnose electrical issues, follow safety standards, and collaborate with a technical team to deliver timely service reports.

Training includes two sessions in Sunnyvale, CA, with travel across the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.

Qualifications

  • The following minimum levels of experience or education are required: high school diploma with 6 years in electrical/process controls/electro-mechanical fields; or technical diploma with Journeyman Certification and 4 years relevant experience; or 5+ years in commercial electrical with related military experience.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting/diagnostic skills are required.
  • Familiarity with safety standards, especially OSHA & NFPA 70E.
  • Experience reading electrical diagrams and blueprints; capable of working with three-phase systems, UPS, power distribution, and control platforms.
  • Experience with electrical/electronic test and measurement equipment.
  • Ability to read and follow ANSI/NETA electrical maintenance standards.
  • Mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting/repair.
  • Must be able to travel within a large service district and occasionally to other US/international destinations.

Job description

  • Provide fuel cell service during field visit dispatches
  • Operate a service vehicle safely
  • Create daily workflows for oneself from a list of scheduled tasks ( regularly assigned to work autonomously )
  • Manage on-site preventative maintenance, repair, test, and diagnostic tasks
  • Follow company procedures and protocols
  • Diagnose errors or technical problems and determine/implement proper solutions
  • Cooperate with a technical team and share information across the organization
  • Comprehend and follow customer access requirements
  • Maintain service vehicle and spare part inventory
  • Maintain/build positive relationships with customers
  • Produce timely and detailed service reports as required
  • Other responsibilities as assigned
  • Required to reside within the Service District (Large Service District: “San Francisco, Bay Area Region”)
  • Training: Two initial training sessions of up to four weeks each in Sunnyvale, CA
Requirements
  • The following MINIMUM levels of experience and or education are required:
  • High school diploma & 6 years’ experience in electrical, process controls, or electro-mechanical fields; - Or –
  • Technical diploma, Journeymen Certification, Electrical Technician Certification in a technical field and relevant industry experience of 4 years (electrical technician, electronics technician, field service, technician, test engineer, etc.) - Or –
  • 5 years or more relevant experience in commercial electrical, combined with electrical-related military experience (e.g. Navy Nuclear Electronics/Electrical Technician, or other technical position, military certified electrical technician, Gas Turbine Electrical Technician)
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting/diagnostic skills required
  • Familiar with safety standards, especially those related to electrical work (OSHA & NFPA 70E)
  • Prior experience as an electrical technician or electronics technician working with any of the following technologies: three-phase systems, uninterruptible power supplies, electrical generation and distribution systems, power electronics, automatic transfer switches, and microprocessor-based control platforms
  • Experience with various electrical/electronic test and measurement equipment
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot fluid systems, including natural gas, water, air, and associated balance-of-plant equipment
  • Able to read and interpret electrical single line diagrams and blueprints
  • Experience with performing equipment maintenance in accordance with ANSI/NETA standards for Electrical Power
  • Mechanical system aptitude, to include troubleshooting/repair skills
  • Highly motivated and able to work autonomously
  • Demonstrates sound judgment in the resolution of complex problems
  • Team player who exhibits a high level of integrity and professionalism
  • Communicates written and verbal English effectively
  • Able to execute against written and verbal procedures and sequenced work instructions
  • Able to regularly handle equipment up to 50lbs., occasionally may lift up to 70 lbs.
  • Able to reach, squat, bend, and twist during the work day
  • Able to use a ladder or stepstool regularly
  • Able to facilitate 24X7 on-call duty
  • Able to facilitate shift work as needed
  • Able to regularly work alternative schedules (one week/month of Wednesday-Sunday, for example)
  • Able to regularly support overtime to achieve quarterly goals
  • Able to regularly travel (drive) throughout a large Service District (“San Francisco, Bay Area Region”)
  • Able to travel occasionally to other US and international destinations
  • Able to maintain a driving record in good standing
