Job summary

Bluebikes is seeking part-time Field Service Technicians for our Boston bikeshare system. The role involves maintaining station terminals and components, traveling to check docking stations and perform maintenance. The technicians will work Sunday to Wednesday or Wednesday to Saturday, with schedules potentially subject to change as per business needs.

Qualifications

Job Description

Motivate is seeking part‑time Field Service Technicians for our Boston bikeshare system. The technicians will help maintain station terminals and station components, traveling throughout the system to check docking stations and perform maintenance that ensures proper operations. The starting schedules are Sunday – Wednesday, 9:30 am – 5:30 pm and Wednesday – Saturday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. Schedules are subject to change as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement and for business need.

Responsibilities

• Complete maintenance and test functionality of station components, performing all diagnostic testing, troubleshooting station malfunctions and issues (both simple and complex), and completing both minor and major repairs.
• Demonstrate expertise in all technical aspects and components of station hardware and software.
• Operate a motor vehicle and ride a bicycle throughout an urban environment.
• Ensure that all necessary reporting is accurate, complete, and timely.
• Complete special projects assigned by the management team.

Qualifications

• Technical aptitude for both electronics and mechanical systems; prior experience in technical troubleshooting and resolving issues, with a background in electronics, repair, construction, or related fields preferred.
• Safety‑mindful, experienced with a pallet jack, and comfortable with hand and power tools; forklift experience is a plus.
• Technology‑proficient, comfortable using smartphone apps, email, chat/text, and able to learn new technology and software applications.
• Valid driver’s license and able to pass a motor vehicle record check.
• Comfortable driving, stopping, and working in busy, outdoor urban environments.
• Able to lift up to 75 pounds and to stoop, bend, and stand for long periods.
