Role Overview

The Field Service Engineer provides on-site customer support for SolarEdge products installed in the field, focusing on troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving technical issues, and supporting customer operations and maintenance.

Location

Remote within Illinois, Ohio, or Michigan, with heavy travel in the Midwest region.

Responsibilities
  1. Support troubleshooting and diagnosis of solar inverter issues using schematics, knowledgebase, and other resources.
  2. Develop solutions for a range of problems from simple troubleshooting to complex system integration.
  3. Advise customers on equipment operation, maintenance, and programming.
  4. Provide pre-sales product information and support.
  5. Reinstall software and adjust settings to resolve malfunctions.
  6. Coordinate with operations to authorize parts for customer issues.
  7. Manage and analyze customer installation data for problem resolution.
  8. Read and interpret electrical schematics and understand high voltage, electronics, and measurement tools.
Account Management
  1. Engage with installers and end users to build relationships, provide training, and enhance brand reputation.
  2. Support sales, marketing, and customer service to identify business opportunities.
  3. Become an expert in regional market dynamics and best practices.
  4. Handle inbound customer communications promptly and document interactions.
  5. Travel to customer sites for service and emergency repairs.
  6. Document activities in CRM and generate reports on efforts and outcomes.
  7. Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and effective communication in English.
  8. Utilize Microsoft Office and other computer systems efficiently.
  9. Promote teamwork and maintain professional relationships.
Qualifications
  1. Preferred BSEE, BSME, or equivalent, with practical experience in solar installations or electrical concepts.
  2. Knowledge of NEC, PV system codes, UL1741, IEE1547, FERC661, and related standards.
  3. Basic IP network knowledge.
  4. Strong troubleshooting skills in electrical and electronics.
  5. Minimum 2 years in a technical role, including 1 year in customer-facing support.
  6. Willingness to travel over 70% and be flexible for shifts.
  7. Excellent customer service, communication, multitasking, and interpersonal skills.
  8. Technical knowledge of SolarEdge products is a plus; familiarity with competitors is beneficial.
  9. Proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits
