Job summary

Volvo Penta North America in Chesapeake, VA, is seeking a skilled field service technician to support marine and industrial engines, including electrification and remote diagnostics. You will troubleshoot, repair, and install products, mentor dealers, travel up to 50% across the defined US territory, and work with digital tools like VPPN and case management.

A minimum 8 years in engine service, an associate degree in a technical field, and strong communication skills are required; bilingual

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, industrial technology, or related technical field; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in engine OEM, distributor, or dealer service environments.
• Proven expert-level knowledge of industrial and marine engine systems, diagnostics, controls, and repair practices.
• Experience with emerging powertrain technologies (electrification, alternative fuels, hybrid systems, connectivity, remote diagnostics) preferred.
• Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills; English fluency; bilingual a plus.

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical resource and escalation point for complex applications, troubleshooting, and repair issues for industrial and marine engines and solutions.
• Respond to advanced technical inquiries via phone, case management, and on-site service when required.
• Lead investigations into product complaints, failures, and safety incidents; document findings and drive resolution.
• Develop service capabilities in dealer base including electromobility, connectivity, and remote diagnostics.
• Promote Volvo Penta digital tools including VPPN and case management.
• Travel up to 50% domestically; support defined US territory from Chesapeake, VA; reside near major airport.
